Kinetic ... The Next Chapter - 18 October 2008 @ The Emporium, Coalville
How did you become a DJ in the rave scene?
I was hooked on early Electro and Hip Hop during my teens (from the mid 1980s onwards) with a passion for break dancing and collecting records which extended into the early rave years of 1989 onwards. A friend of mine knew I was gathering a nice collection of vinyl and asked me to play at his mid week night in Southampton. I was 15 years old at the time and I loved playing to a REAL audience. Several south coast residencies followed and the rest is history!
When and how did you become resident at Club Kinetic?
Whilst holding down my early residencies I was also working hard on spreading my wings and playing further afield and after sending out numerous demos to many promoters, the guys at Kinetic called and offered me a booking in their 2nd room. This went really well and I was offered a follow up gig and it was during that appearance that I was offered a residency. I was pretty damn chuffed to say the least!
What's your fondest memory of Kinetic?
I have many, many memories that stand out however, I held my birthday party at the Leisurebowl and I was allowed to pick the DJ line up too. We had Carl Cox, Stu Allan and Slipmatt amongst many others and they had to open up extra rooms because it was so rammed! I still have the many handmade birthday cards I was given at the time, I was very touched with all the support from the Kinetic crew and the night is still talked about to this day.
How do you feel the scene of today compares to that of the 90's?
I think the music policy has become a little linear than it was as line ups would regularly feature Hardcore, Drum & Bass and Techno on the same dance floors where as today a night tends to be about one style and/or have separate arenas for each sound. That said, Hardcore is still going strong with awesome crowds up and down the country and beyond. No complaints here!
What can we expect from DJ Brisk in the future?
Plenty more tracks, productions, albums and of course DJ sets!
